Spring cleanup will begin April 4 in Manitowoc.
The first two weeks will be for brush only and the second two weeks will be for yard waste only.
All work is dependent on the weather. Updates will be posted at manitowoc.org or call 920-686-6550.
During the cleanup, a parking ban will be in place on city streets. No parking will be allowed near garden waste, brush and/or leaf and raking piles on city streets during the week of pickup between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Vehicles parked near any debris piles will be ticketed.

Street sweeping parking ban also taking effect: The city also announced its street sweeping parking ban will take effect April 1. To avoid being ticketed during the ban, people should learn the day of their street sweeping by visiting the city’s website to view the Street Sweeping District Map. People should only park on the street after the posted time on the street sweeping sign.
Manitowoc-Two Rivers Chess Club and Terran Chess Federation are inviting all interested chess enthusiasts to attend the Manitowoc Minute Tornado, a chess tournament at the Holiday Inn, 4601 Calumet Ave., in Manitowoc on April 9.
The U.S. Chess Federation event welcomes all players and spectators. Player registration starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m. Rounds begin at 10 a.m. and 1, 3:30 and 6 p.m. All players must have USCF membership. Information about USCF membership is online.
Unrated players choose to participate in either the open or reserve section and pay a $30 or $20 tournament entry fee, respectively.
Players with a USCF rating under 1,600 play in the reserve section.
The 10 cash prizes depend on performance and sections and range from $30 to $200.

The Manitowoc-Two Rivers Chess Club meets from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday mornings at Jenn’s Java, 1124 Washington St., Manitowoc.
The Boys & Girls Club of Manitowoc County will hold an open house and ribbon-cutting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 6 at its facility, 3651 Dewey St., Manitowoc. Those attending can check out the newly renovated facility and speak with staff about the club.
The club is the first Boys & Girls Club in Manitowoc and opened earlier this year after years of planning and a $2 million fundraising campaign.
The Dewey Street facility has multiple learning centers, an art room, STEM lab, game center, café and gym.
The club is open every weekday from 3 to 6 p.m. for kids 6-12, with additional hours for teens ages 13-18 coming soon. Those interested in registering can do so online. The club can be reached at 920-470-8063.
Annual membership is $15 for each child 7 or older, not to exceed $35 per family. Children must be enrolled in full-day schooling to attend. All memberships run for one year and are renewed annually.
Two Rivers Fire Department’s 10th annual fish boil will be from 3 to 7 p.m. April 15 at the fire station, 2122 Monroe St., Two Rivers. Dine in and carry-out are available.
Cost is $14 for the adult meal (cod, carrots, potatoes, onions, bread and butter) and $6 for the kids’ meal (small portion, or a hotdog and chips). Drinks and desserts will also be available.
Tickets are available at the fire station, at the event or online through the Two Rivers Fire Department’s Facebook page. Proceeds support local charities, including youth sports teams, school groups, non-profits and food pantries.
One of the largest semi convoy events for suicide awareness in the nation will be held in Sheboygan and Manitowoc counties in May.
The second annual Suicide Awareness Convoy will begin at noon May 7. The convoy will include more than 175 semis and vehicles traveling along Interstate 43 from Master Gallery Foods, 621 N. Business Park Drive, in Oostburg, to Kellnersville Bar & Banquet, 1233 Main St., in Kellnersville.

The event is in memory of Nicole Warner of Sheboygan Falls, who passed away at age 19 in September 2019. Her obituary states that the following day, her grandfather, Dennis Teetzen, 77, of Sheboygan, “was suffering from a broken heart of losing his granddaughter and passed away from an automobile accident.”
On May 7, people are invited to “come together as a community to bring awareness to suicide” and to watch the convoy of vehicles and then meet for food, drinks, raffles and music at Kellnersville Bar & Banquet. Proceeds from the event go to Mental Health America in Sheboygan County. Call 920-458-3951 for more information.
